20 Potato Sides Perfect for Thanksgiving

  1. Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes –

One word; delicious! This is a great side to any meal, especially a special occasion. I love making this dish when I make a roasted chicken or turkey because the oven is at the same temperature and they roast for about an hour. This dish will impress anyone and it is incredibly easy, not to mention healthy… Get the Recipe Here Low Fat Healthy Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  2. Scalloped Potatoes with Broccoli –

This is a dish that always used to intimidate me! Now I say with much confidence; this is awesome and super simple. I’ve also lightened it up by using milk and flour instead of butter and cream… Get the Recipe Herehealthy scalloped potatoes

  3. Cajun Sweet Potato Wedges

    – Creamy sweet potatoes tossed in a spicy seasoning blend and then roasted to crispy perfection.  To make it even better, these babies are served with my Scallion-Lime sauce for dipping.  Spicy can still be festive!.. Get the Recipe HereSpicy Sweet Potato Wedges

  4. Roasted Potato and Pepper Hash –

This recipe came together in minutes and is such a keeper.  This is like a fancy version of everyone’s favourite diner potato hash but the labour is minimal and by roasting it, the hash develops incredible flavour and textures as the veggies caramelize… Get the Recipe Here Healthy Roasted Potato Hash

  5. Grilled Potatoes –

I love this recipe because the potatoes actually taste like French fries, mmmm, French fries, and yes you can barbecue on Thanksgiving!  Over the years I’ve definitely learned to utilize any and all appliances!… Get the Recipe HereBarbecued Potatoes

  6. Sweet Potato Wedges –

Over the course of my time blogging I have made a few – nay, quite a few confessions.  Well, here’s another one:  I don’t like sweet potatoes (yams) and this time I can’t really blame my mother (I can already hear her screaming ‘Ya-hoo’).  Anyway Mike loves sweet  potatoes so in a compromise since he eats tomatoes (he despises tomatoes), I’m trying to find a way to enjoy this healthy starch.  This recipe is actually good!  The extra sugar in the sweet potato caramelizes amazingly and the Rosemary works as a perfect savoury partner.  I’m definitely making this recipe again 😉… Get the Recipe Here Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges

  7. Garlic Mashed Potatoes –

Did I mention yet that this recipe is almost fat free? Yup! The only fat comes from the milk. The flavour of this dish is incredible, you get the soft echo of the garlic without the intensity… Get the Recipe Here Healthy Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  8. Rosemary and Garlic Roasted Potatoes –

These are the potatoes I like to serve with Roast Beef but they’re awesome with turkey.   I will never advocate cutting starches from your diet entirely but I will stress moderation and portion control.  Try to focus on lean protein and fresh veggies but remember your brain runs off carbs!!!… Get the Recipe Here Healthy Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic

  9. Potato Wedges (Wedgies!) –

I haven’t had a French fry since February 2006.  I have totally sworn off deep fried food.  These “wedgies” are my answer to a low fat healthy French fry without the guilt of the take out window… Get the Recipe Here Roasted Potato Wedges

  10. Potatoes au Gratin –

Yep, Potatoes au Gratin, these are yummy, gooey, cheesy and yes; they are low fat.  Trust me my friend, trust me!… Get the Recipe Here Healthy Scalloped Potatoes

  11. Buttermilk Potato Casserole –

Mike’s mom was here recently and she made an incredible potato casserole that reminded me I had this recipe written, just waiting to be published!  I don’t know why I waited so long!  Gently baking the potatoes gives the most decadent experience with no added fat or calories 😉… Get the Recipe Here Buttermilk Mashed Potato Casserole

  12. Slow-Cooker Roasted Potatoes –

We have had the weirdest autumn so far in southern Ontario because really, it feels like August.  However, there were days that felt appropriate to bust out my crockpot and bust out I did!  These potatoes are glorious; so simple and so jam-packed with flavour.  This would be a great way to utilize the space in your oven for other dishes for your Thanksgiving 🙂 … Get the Recipe Here crockpot roasted potatoes

  13. Slow-Cooker Scalloped Potatoes –

So far autumn feels like summer (not that I’m complaining) but the other day it almost felt like sweater season. Almost. So I pounced. I busted out the slow cooker and dove into potatoe-y heaven with melted delicious cheese. I’m all over healthy eating and staying fit but there’s something so tempting about hiding away in an over-sized sweater; am I alone here?… Get the Recipe Here slow cooked scalloped potatoes

  14. Potato-Cauliflower Gratin –

I know, I know, there’s been a heat wave and a drought but cauliflower is in season and I couldn’t resist! This is such an incredibly yummy dish that allows you to enjoy potato gratin in much lighter way and with all of the added benefits of farm-fresh cauliflower… Get the Recipe HerePotato and Cauliflower Gratin

  15. Layered Vegetable Bake with Fresh Thyme –

I was at a complete loss as to what to call this. Not only could I not decide what it is, I couldn’t decide on it’s ethnicity; I considered it French but my mother considered it Italian. Whatever the name, whatever the ethnicity, it’s delicious. This comes together easily and presents impressively. Don’t skip parboiling the potatoes otherwise they’ll end up under cooked and crunchy… Get the Recipe Here Layered Vegetable Baked

  16. French Fries

     – That’s right, I said French fries!  I haven’t had a “real” French fry since February 2006.  I have sworn off all deep fried foods, as a personal preference.  So when I came up with this recipe I almost cried; they are that good!  In case you’re wondering if this would work for Thanksgiving then repeat after me: fries and gravy… Get the Recipe Here  Healthy French fries

  17. Autumn Harvest Roasted Potatoes –

I was inspired once again by the abundance of fresh Ontario produce available this time of year and sadly I’m using up my fresh herbs before frost hits. This is a bittersweet time of year but it’s also the most beautiful… Get the Recipe Here autumn potatoes

  18. Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes –

So you know those really yummy, buttery, creamy, mashed potatoes we all love?  You know how you could eat the entire pot and still have room for more?  You know how bad they are for you?  Yes, those mashed potatoes; this recipe is my compromise and oh man, this dish is good!… Get the Recipe Here Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes

  19. Home Style Potato Wedges –

These wedges are reminiscent of the ones you got at a chip wagon when you were little. They have the really crispy crunchy dark edges that usually spell grease, usually! The key to getting the yummy edges is roughly scraping the baking sheet with a spatula half way through the wedges baking. Instead of flipping them gently like other recipes, you want to run the spatula along the edges and pan, like scraping paint… Get the Recipe Here healthy chip wagon chips

  20. Scalloped Sweet Potatoes –

This is a recipe that is healthy, low fat and so delicious that you forget the first two points!  I hope this makes its way to a holiday dinner because it is sure to impress… Get the Recipe Here healthy sweet potato gratin_
