Homemade Barbeque Sauce
I have no idea how to categorize this sauce, that seems to be a science! This sauce is sweet and tangy and yummy. The one ingredient that is missing here versus store-bought sauce is corn syrup, an ingredient that has been linked to numerous diseases. Despite the sugar, this recipe is kinder to your waistline, perfect for a summer barbeque.
Makes about 3 Cups
2 Cups of ketchup
1 Cup of water
½ Apple cider vinegar
½ Cup plus 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
2 tsp black pepper
– Combine all ingredients together in a saucepot and bring to a boil.
– Once the sauce comes to a boil, drop the heat to medium low and let it simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally.
– Taste and adjust seasoning, add a pinch of salt if you feel it’s needed, I didn’t add any though.
