Copycat KFC Gravy
Here I present my Copycat KFC Gravy, read on to learn how to make it yourself 🙂
I firmly believe you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t enjoy fries and gravy. Â Here I upped the ante by making potato wedges. Â Crunchy on the outside, creamy-dreamy potatoey in the middle, potato wedges.
Back in the Day:
I just had a flashback of my high school cafeteria lunch lineup. Â All the kids crammed, jammed even – hungry! Â Hangry! Waiting oh so impatiently for lunch. Â The burgers were disgusting… the fries though… with gravy… yum!
Zero nutritional value, lol.
Oh the gravy though.
I do love fries and gravy though to this day… 29 years later!  OMG I’m so middle-aged.  I really should start to dress/act my age 🤔
Why KFC Gravy?
It’s distinct and delicious.
The Motivation:
I saw a few recipes on Pinterest for this gravy only I found them waaaay too salty.  I added more water and omitted any additional salt because bouillon cubes are super high in sodium.  If you want the extra-thick KFC gravy then go with 5 tbsp each butter and flour… the recipe that follows is much more to my Personal taste…. and its really freaking good 🙂
This is how you make it:
Combine the boiling water with the two bouillon cubes, onion powder and pepper.
Set aside.
Place a frying pan over medium heat and add in the butter and flour.
When the butter is melted, mix well (use a whisk). Â
You are making a roux here and as such are looking for a wet sand look.
Keep stirring the mixture for about one minute, this will get rid of the raw flour taste.
Slowly whisk in half the soup mix, stirring constantly. Â
Whisk in the remaining soup.
Add in a few drops of gravy browner.
Mix well.
As always, taste and adjust seasoning.
