sweet and sour sauce for dipping

 Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sometimes the condiment is better than the main; this is one of those times! This sauce is tangy and sweet and you get the most amazing flavour from the pineapple, perfect for dipping homemade nuggets 🙂

Makes about 1 cup

2/3 Cup Pineapple Juice

1/3 Cup Cider Vinegar

1/3 Cup brown sugar

3 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp sodium-reduced soy sauce

½ tsp salt

1 tbsp cornstarch

1 tbsp cold water

In a sauce pot, whisk together the pineapple juice, vinegar, sugar, ketchup, soy sauce and salt; bring to a boil.

Meanwhile combine the cornstarch and water until completely smooth and lump free and then add it to the pot once it’s boiling.

Boil the sauce until thickened and then set aside to cool.

I love the simplicity of this recipe! I used it with chicken that had already been cooked, and simmered bite sized pieces while it was cooking down. We all loved it!
