Homemade Pizza Dough
So, I’ve said this before, I started writing recipes in 2010. I wanted to write a Cook Book. I researched publishers a lot and what they’re looking for. Not surprising, most, not all want a literary agent. In order to have a literary agent you need, experience and mostly, notoriety. In this economy how can you really ask someone to take you on at their own expense when you bring almost nothing to the table? I guess I was naive but man did I write my recipes! I found it (still do) cathartic. I enjoy putting thoughts and creativity into words. Thinking and planning recipes takes me out of the chaos of everyday life. I’m even thinking about making my own YouTube videos (I know, very late to the party but better late than never). My kids are pumped about YouTube, they’re going to help me make them. A little off-topic but I was watching Jamie Oliver on YouTube and my son said, “you’d be better than that guy mommy, your food is really good”. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that perfect moment. My kids believe in me and want to help me succeed, I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve such incredible children.
Back to the pizza dough:
Back in the day when I started writing my Cook Book recipes I wanted to do as much by hand as possible. You don’t need state of the art kitchen gadgets and appliances to be a good cook. Plus some of those gadgets are super expensive and well, I didn’t have them. As the years progress I’m slowly building my collection of Kitchen equipment but truth be told, my sister is usually the one to buy them for me. I still feel guilty spending money on myself – I’ll buy myself something of Christmas or Mother’s Day but its usually no more than $20. Except I have a handbag addiction that I’ve been pretty tame about feeding since the pandemic hit…. And I have a nice car. That’s it lol. I work full time and need transportation to work. May as well enjoy the drive.
Back to the recipe:
My daughter has decided she’s moving out in a few years (she’s 7), her and her bestie are going to rent an apartment together so now she’s pretty motivated to learn to cook. My son is happy to stay home until he’s 35. He’s promised that I can cook his meals and do his laundry. His dad isn’t that impressed with this idea!
So now that my daughter would like to learn to cook we make pizza together. I make the dough and then when it’s ready she helps roll it out and get the toppings on. Cheese and pepperoni 9recipe coming soon) seems to be everyone’s favourite.

The Dream:
When I discovered my daughter wants to help make pizza I asked Mike if we could have a pizza oven in the backyard. Similar to this one:

Eeek its so expensive! I don’t think Mike’s all that into this idea seeing as he just turned and walked out the room when I brought it up 🤷♀️
The Plan:
So fully acknowledging that my dream ⬆️ is probably more of a Pipe Dream, have a plan.

This is how you make it:
Attach the dough hook to the stand mixer.
Combine the flour, the yeast, salt and sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer.
Add the olive oil.
Pour in the warm water.
Lock the mixer and set the mixer to 2.
The dough will be ready in about 5 minutes.
If the dough is sticking to the bottom of the bowl or to your finger when you touch it, it needs more flour. Add tablespoon by tablespoon. You’ve added enough when its not sticking anymore.
Set the dough aside and oil the inside of the bowl (I use kitchen spray).
Return the dough to the bowl and cover with a clean kitchen cloth.
Set aside to rest and rise for one hour – even if its Quick-Rise yeast.
After an hour preheat your oven to 375 – you’re ready to make PIZZA!!!!

Homemade Pizza Dough
- Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
- Yield: 1 Large Pizza 1x
Description
My tried and true simple Pizza Dough recipe that comes together in about 5 minutes, here I let my Stand Mixer do all the hard work!
Ingredients
2 ½ cups white all-purpose flour, plus more
½ tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
11 ml dry instant yeast (1 envelope) or two rounded tsps
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cup luke warm water

- This is the way I’ve been making my dough lately. The stand mixer makes this so simple but if you don’t have one then check out my hand-made pizza dough recipe here.
- Half white flour and half whole wheat flour – ¾ tsp salt
