Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

I’m new to this whole pork thing but it feels like there’s a whole culinary world that’s opened up to me.  Naturally pulled pork came to mind instantly when I was trying to decide what dish to the next.  At first I was intimidated but as I researched it, I realized it’s so easy!  The crock pot does all the work.  Of course I’m going to “tackle” this dish using my Instant Pot next 😉

Serves 8

1 tbsp Brown Sugar

1 tsp Chilli powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp (dried) oregano

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

2-3 lb Pork Butt or shoulder

3/4 Cup water, divided

1 Cup BBQ Hickory sauce

Mix together the brown sugar, chilli powder, garlic powder, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper.

Rub evenly all over the pork butt, using all the seasoning.

Transfer to the crockpot and add 1/2 cup water to the side of the meat, careful not to let the water touch the meat.

Set the crockpot to low and cook for 8-10 hours.

After, transfer the meat to a cutting board or large bowl (I used a large stainless steel bowl) and shred the meat using two forks.

Drain the liquid from the crockpot and then add in the meat and BBQ sauce; warm for 30 minutes before serving.

Taste and adjust seasoning on the meat, if you find the meat too rich (I did), add the remaining 1/4 cup of water and leave it to warm through).

Again, taste and adjust seasoning just before serving.

Notes:

  1. I chose Hickory BBQ sauce because I thought it would be best with flavours of the rub but feel free to go with your own fav BBQ sauce 🙂

This turned out amazing! I taste tested before adding the BBQ sauce, and it was so good, I didn’t add the sauce! I must add… I am not very good at cooking meat. I can cook pasta & veggies like nobody’s business, but meat… not so much. I followed the directions to a T; it turned out delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe!!!!
