Honey Sesame Chicken

Here is another recipe I shared almost 3 years ago to the day; it’s crazy how fast time goes by!!!

I’m still on my Chinese food takeout kick and it’s awesome! This comes together in literally minutes and it’s healthy and so good! This tastes like it should be fatty but it’s not!!!

Description

Classic Chinese take-out that’s low fat, healthy and comes together in minutes 🙂

Ingredients

Scale

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

4 Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, fat removed, cut in to thin slices

1/3 Cup honey

1 tbsp sodium-reduced soy sauce

1 tsp cider vinegar

1/2 Cup cold water

2 cloves garlic, crushed

5 dashes sesame oil

1 tbsp cornstarch

Sesame seeds to garnish

2 Green onions/scallions, sliced to garnish

Instructions

Add the olive oil to a frying pan over high heat and when the oil is hot (it will ripple) sauté the chicken until it is cooked and then set aside.

Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, water, garlic, sesame oil and cornstarch and then add it to the pan, bring the sauce to a boil and gently scrape the bottom of the pan to release any of the flavours (deglazing).

Boil the sauce until it thickens.

Turn the heat off the pan and return the chicken and juices to the sauce.

Mix the chicken well to evenly coat in the sauce.

Taste and adjust seasoning.

Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

  1. You can use white wine vinegar or rice wine vinegar in place of cider vinegar.
  2. Serve with steamed rice (yum!).
