Copycat Pizzeria Sauce

There’s a local bakery we frequent quite often, Sweet Paradise. I love getting fresh buns and cold cuts for my work lunches. Then one day my sister mentioned that she was going to order their pizza. She said its really yummy and affordable so I wanted to try it too.

On the Monday of march break I took my kids to the park and ordered that pizza for lunch. You order it by the slice, slab or half slab. I ordered a 1/2 Slab of pepperoni. Translation? 1/2 a tray or 4 large slices. Honestly that was enough pizza for our whole family with leftovers!!!

This is where inspiration struck.

I love their sauce.

It’s the classic pizzeria sauce I’d eaten time and time again.

The missing link to THE perfect homemade pizza.

So here I present my humble Copycat Pizzeria Sauce.

I nailed it 💪

This is how you make it:

Pour the passata into a bowl (I know, I used a measuring cup… I did this on purpose!)

398 ml is 1 1/2 Cups.

So, pour the passata into a bowl and then add in the olive juice.

Then you stir.

Voila; Copycat Pizzeria Sauce.

2-ingredient, Copycat Pizzeria Sauce…. 2-ingredient, Copycat Pizzeria Sauce that’s raw… No cooking.

Raw. 2-ingredient. Copycat Pizzeria Sauce 😎

In all seriousness though, the ratio is 2 tbsp Olive juice for every 1 cup of the strained tomatoes.

The Products Used:

I went with what I had on hand.

Unico Manzanilla Olives [4] (green olives stuffed with pimento).

I’ve included a link to Walmart.ca to show you the olives but I’m sure you can find these in your favourite grocery store.

So, why Walmart.ca?

I’m Canadian 🇨🇦

Walmart is my favourite grocery store.  Our local Walmart has great selection, quality and fantastic customer service.

I actually get really excited when I get to go to American Walmarts when I’m there 🤣🤣🤣

Next, I chose Great Value brand Tomato Sauce [5] – this is strictly unseasoned Passata which essentially is strained tomatoes.  Passata is a little thinner than crushed tomatoes.  Usually Passata comes in a 680 ml jar.  You can find it with the canned tomatoes in your local store.

Here is an example [6] but its made me a liar because this particular brand has 660 ml jars 🙈🙈🙈

The Sauce

Like all great scientists I did this experiement blind.  Well, kind of blind.  I could see (lol).  What I mean is I didn’t tell my family how I was making this sauce because they don’t like olives.  At all.

That’s good news for everyone because my family loved this sauce,  they couldn’t tell what I’d put in it.  So in case you’re worried that this sauce may not be for you, please keep an open mind and give it a go.  I promise you’ve had this before and you loved it.

Its Raw until its not

I learned this tip from an ex-boyfriend’s Italian father.  His father hailed from Rome, mine hails from Tuscany.  Anyway he said not to ever pre-cook your pizza sauce because it’ll cook on your pizza.  Such a simple concept but it really is that je ne sais quoi that takes this sauce to the next level.

And one more for good measure

I must say, I love making pizza and when I developed this sauce I wanted to make it everyday!

Now the photos you’re seeing are for a recipe that’s coming soon!

Homemade Pepperoni Pizza.

The photos for the upcoming post were taken when I used a rectangular pan.  So these photos are different from the ones you’ll see.  Where am I going with this you ask?  I went to a store where I found a large, round pizza pan.  My kids were pumped!

My son who adores homemade pizza literally said his life is now complete because he gets to have ROUND homemade pizza.

Side note; this was my first attempt at round pizza in many, many moons – not bad, eh???
