Here I present my recipe for the glorious, Greek Rice.  You can’t hear me but I’m saying Greek the same way Michael Simon does 🙂

I love Greek food but I feel like I should be using quotes… like “Greek”… not Greek. I love the “Greek” food you get at the food court. You get Greek salad with rice, potatoes, souvlaki and Tzatziki. It was actually the inspiration for the menu for our annual end of summer bbq. We hosted it labour day weekend.

I call it the end of summer bbq instead of labour day bbq because it’s my way of sending off my favourite season with a family get together.

I’ve never been able to recreate Greek rice until I learned the method.

The rice is baked and it gets it golden hue from the turmeric.

Truth be told, I went with store bought souvlaki 😱😱😱

What!?! I made the rice 🤣

This is how you make it

 

Combine the water, bouillon cube, turmeric, cumin, butter and pepper in an oven-safe pot.

Bring it to a boil then add in the rice; mix well.

Cover with a tight-fitting lid or with foil.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Description

A super simple recipe for the classic yellow, Greek rice made with chicken stock, butter and a blend of spices 🙂


Ingredients

Scale

2 cups water 

1 aurora bouillon chicken cube

1/2 tsp turmeric 

1/2 tsp cumin 

1 tbsp salted butter

Pepper, to taste

1 cup long grain rice


Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375; don’t start cooking the rice until the oven is ready.

Combine the water, bouillon cube, turmeric, cumin, butter and pepper in an oven-safe pot.

Bring it to a boil then add in the rice; mix well.

Cover with a tight-fitting lid or with foil.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Notes

  1. Don’t add more salt
  2. Go with whatever bouillon cube you have on hand.
