Meet Lisa G

Hi, I’m Lisa. Welcome to my blog!

Here you’ll find recipes that taste indulgent but aren’t; I take my favourite naughty foods and make them nice!  I believe in getting more bang for your proverbial buck; less fat equals more food with a smaller waistline.

In case you’re wondering, my inspiration for this blog is my sister, well more specifically, my niece (I call her chicken).  My sister is, without a doubt, one of the most intelligent people I know, but she was not blessed with the cooking gene.  As my niece began to eat solid food I felt bad for her (my sister is going to kill me!).  So I decided to put my recipes on paper to help my sister out, and you know what happened?  It took.  My sister has become quite the cook and now that I have another niece, (pork chop) my sister has gotten into a routine of cooking with both of her girls.

So, this is how I see this blog going, I’m going to show you how I cook, the same way I did for my sister, not just show you what to cook.  I’ll share my strategies with food shopping, pantry, fridge and freezer stocking and offer a variety of health and nutritional tips.  I like to cook simple, healthy food.  No fuss, no muss; good fresh ingredients that can be purchased at any grocery store.  I’m completely self taught, my dishes taste great with the added benefits of being healthy and low fat which will contribute to a better you.

A few notes about the way I have written my recipes; the only times I measure an ingredient are if I am baking or need a precise liquid measurement.  You will notice that I refer to vegetable measurements as either small, medium or large.  I do this because it’s not realistic to break out all of the measuring cups for a salad and honestly it doesn’t really matter.  I am showing you how I cook and what works best for me.  I also want to offer a little bit of solace and control in the kitchen; cooking’s not meant to be stressful.  I also loosely refer to salt and pepper rather than a firm amount.  This is done with the realization that salt and pepper come down to personal preference; not everyone likes as much salt as I do!  Season as you go along, ie, as you add ingredients and then at the end, taste and adjust the seasoning.

I look forward to your responses and truly hope you enjoy my food.  I also invite you to make requests.  If there is a food that you would like me to try to make healthier and yummy, I’d love to!  Just email me and I will post it on this site.

And now I’ll share my philosophy on life: you should dance everyday because there is always a reason to dance.

Cheers,

Lisa
